Siding and Window Calculators

Measure your walls, estimate a cost range, check a window against Title 24, and see whether your siding is leaning towards repair or replacement.

Quick numbers for planning a siding or window project. Every price and code figure here is taken from one of our published guides, which is named and linked under each calculator. These are planning ranges, not a quote.

Siding square footage calculator

Siding is ordered and priced by wall area. Add each wall as length × height, add any gables (the triangle under a roof peak), and subtract large openings such as garage doors. Leave small windows in: installers usually count them as waste.

Walls

Gables

Openings to subtract

Cuts, overlaps and trim offcuts mean you always order more than the wall area. We default to 10%; complex walls with many corners and openings need more.

Siding cost range estimator

Multiplies your wall area by the installed cost per square foot published in our Northern California siding cost guide.

Enter your wall area, or use the square footage calculator above.

Installed ranges per square foot, from the guide: all materials about $8 to $18; vinyl $5–$10; wood $9–$16; fiber cement $10–$18. Rot repair behind the old siding, trim, paint, access and permits can move a real quote outside this range. See our cost guide for more.

Window replacement cost range

Uses the installed per-window ranges from our window replacement cost guide.

Enter the number of windows.

Per window, installed: vinyl $400–$800, fiberglass $700–$1,200, aluminum $500–$1,000, wood $800–$1,500+. The guide notes Bay Area pricing runs 10–20% higher than Sacramento, which the Bay Area option applies. Size, style, glass options and full-frame versus retrofit installation all move the number.

Title 24 window check

Check a quoted window against the current California Energy Code requirement for replacement windows, using the U-factor and SHGC printed on its NFRC label. The values come from our Title 24 guide, which cites the code.

Enter the U-factor and SHGC from the window’s NFRC label.

These are the prescriptive values for replacement windows in a house, for permit applications made on or after 1 January 2026. Outside the listed cities, find your zone with the California Energy Commission’s lookup. Your building department confirms what applies to your permit.

When you want a real number

Calculators give ranges. A quote depends on what is behind the siding, how the house is built, and the materials you choose. We measure, look behind the cladding where needed, and put the scope in writing before any price is agreed. Ask us for an estimate, or read the glossary to decode a quote you already have.

Calculator figures are taken from the linked Heritage Exteriors guides and reflect what those guides state at the time of writing. They are planning ranges, not a quote for your property.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are these calculators?

They give planning ranges based on the figures in our published guides. A real quote depends on what is behind the old siding, the complexity of the walls, access, trim and paint, and the exact products you choose, so it can fall outside these ranges.

How do I measure my house for siding?

Measure the length and height of each wall, add the triangular gable areas under roof peaks, and subtract large openings such as garage doors. Then add a waste allowance, typically around 10% and more for complex walls. The square footage calculator does the arithmetic.

Where do I find a window’s U-factor and SHGC?

On the NFRC label, the sticker on every new window, and on the manufacturer’s specification for the exact product in your quote. Our NFRC label guide shows where each number is printed.

Do the calculators include rot repair?

No. Damage behind the old siding cannot be seen until it is removed, so no calculator can price it. Our contingency budget guide explains how much to hold back for it.

Heritage replaced my old crumbling wood siding and did a fantastic job. From the first interactions assessing the project and providing a quote, to the project itself, was all exceptional. My home looks brand new.

We recently had our house re-sided with Hardie product. We interviewed 3 companies, one of them being Heritage Exteriors. From our first meeting with David to the last day's work touching up paint, the experience was excellent.
